During the COVID-19 crisis, United Way of Acadiana has stepped in to the fill some of the gaps in food relief. Here are only a couple of examples:
- When people in need are either unable to access food pantries or food distribution sites because of lack of transportation, or do not qualify for Council on Aging Meals on Wheels home delivery services, UWA steps in. Volunteers are mobilized twice a week to deliver food to those who have been referred by other agencies, including 232-HELP/211.
- UWA volunteers are mobilized twice a week to deliver food to those experiencing homelessness who are semi-permanently housed in local hotels and motels.
