SUMMER OF ACTION

If volunteerism is an important value to you, join the Summer of Action! Hundreds of volunteers throughout Acadiana come together to harness the power of the LIVE UNITED movement by supporting grassroots projects, locals students and educators.

The Summer of Action will begin with UWA's Stuff the Bus program, the 11th year of the school supply drive!  This tradition generates over 40,000 school supply items annually.  If you share our commitment to help more children in Acadiana enter school ready to learn, then you will want to participate in this program that typically reaches thousands of children in 68 local schools and programs throughout the region.   There are two ways to participate:

Additionally, United Way of Acadiana is partnering with The Daily Advertiser this year to Adopt-A-Teacher. Local teachers are “adopted” online so that they, too, start the school year with the tools they need for their classrooms.  Community members who adopt teachers have the opportunity to meet their teacher and see the impact of their generosity.  To adopt a teacher, download our instructions here and then please visit www.theadvertiser.com beginning July 2 to choose a teacher.

The newest facet of the Summer of Action is 10-10-10, an innovative experiment in volunteerism.  After a community call for projects, ten projects were selected and ten teams of interested individuals will complete each project from June 21 through June 30th.  Over the course of ten days, United Way will leverage its expertise in volunteer mobilization and project support to see each undertaking maximize its success.  10-10-10 is truly democratized philanthropy in action and we will be updating this site as the project progress!  The 2018 ten projects are:
